What LIP said...

especially, the Cosmo at the Cosmo.  I dunno about the attraction to Shane there, but our Cosmo at the Cosmo from the 1st floor Chandelier bar (and then the 8 rounds of cosmos on the floor while gamblin'...ahem), were deeeeelectable.

I want a diggity dang offer from the Cosmo already.  I drunk gambled at dollar slots damn it!  :)

Wanted to thank everyone for the input, the rooms are comped, so we decided to stay on strip just for the new experience. We usually stay at Fitz's or 4 queens & always enjoy ourselves, love to wander from casino to casino, rambling & gambling. Definitely low rollers, but do enjoy variety of food options & seem to do more buffets as usually eat main meals in A.M. & P.M. . How well does the 20 dollar trick work at Paris, or PH for upgrades? Keep smiling, & everyone will wonder what the heck you been up to!!

The $20 trick may work at Paris depending on the person at the front desk.  I've had people graciously help with an upgrade, view, room on higher floor, etc. and I've had people who are 'go by the book.'

The $20 trick has worked for me at Paris. Your best chance is getting a corner room. (I think they're called "P Rooms.")

Of course, don't get too pushy, be polite, and (I think) most importantly, if they are pleasant, give them the $20 for trying anyway. Might make someone else's chances better in the future :)

It's a comped room - worst case you're out $20.

I came back last night from a stay at Caesars.  The amount of walking in the Paris,Ballys, Bellagio area can be huge if you like to wander as we did. Nothing like downtown.
We got an email with an update offer from CET about a week before we left. For $20 or $30 we could update from a standard room to the Augustus tower.  We are Diamonds so we would be eligible for an automatic upgrade as part of our benefits.

I actually think that if you end up getting the e-mail the week before saying that you can upgrade for $xx, your chances are probably better of getting an upgrade using the $20 trick, because it means that rooms are still available.

Another thing that can't hurt is sending a fax to the property letting them know about how special you want your trip to be (birthday, anniversary, first trip to Vegas, bringing spouse to renew vows, etc.). Whatever it may be, they WANT to exceed your expectations.

On the strip you can expect to find 6/5 blackjack as the norm.
As noted if you are a higher limit gambler like $25/hand you can get 3/2.

So at a $10 table you get $12 payback (6/5) on your $10 bet vs $15 at a 3/2 table.
You find a lot more of the 3/2 tables downtown.

There is also a large number of continious shuffle machines. According to the wizzard of odds this increases the players advantage but the 6/5 easily takes this away.
If you are an advantage player (card counter) continious shuffle takes that out the window.

I however do like playing at the casino royale. They have a good selection of inexpensive foods and cheap tables.
Lots to see on the strip. The MIrage volcano, the Sirens show at TI, fountain at Belligao

You can hit slots of fun, circus circus or the stratosphere for older feel. Or hit NY NY, Cosmo etc for the latest greatest.
The Forum shops are a good for a walk to get out of the heat and they have some moving statues that are good for some free entertainment.

Have fun.
