Hi, new to the forum!
« on: March 09, 2012, 10:17:33 AM »
We are planning a trip around the week of April 16th. Only been there one time back in 2007.
Need some advice on places to stay that won't bankrupt us so we have money to play. :smiley-slot:

Get a players card if you dont have one.  Then play and you will earn some comps.
Usually get a coupon book from checkin.  Sometimes that will help.

Welcome. You'll find some of the best room rates downtown. But when you want to see and do a lot on the strip a stay there may suit you better. There are plenty of transportation options though.

We visit the strip for our usual stops but other then that we stay and play downtown or off strip. Downtown is really pretty neat. Our first trip we never even went down there. Had no idea what we were missing.

Several questions you should answer to make your Vegas adventure everything you want it to be.

WHY Vegas?  What do I want/expect of Vegas?  What is my overall total trip budget?  How long will I be there?  Do I need a car? Will I visit the "other" attractions, Hoover Dam, Red Rock Canyon, Grand Canyon, etc?

Do I gamble?  Slots? Poker? table games? VP?  Is my gambling purely "recreational" or do I think I will win because "I have a system", "I studied and practiced at home on my computer", "I'm an experienced player and know what to expect in a casino", or something like, "I might play one hour per day"?

Are you looking for "deals", or is the budget one where expensive meals, etc don't matter?  Are you "willing to work cheap" in order to get free money or free bets by visiting many casinos?

Only you can decide.  Once "we" know what you're looking for and expecting, than it would be much easier to give good advice based on your expectations, wants, and needs.

One thing I will mention.  When you calculate your all inclusive trip budget, include your gaming bankroll as a separate number.  Than double or triple it.

It is also possible for "newbies", and even veteran visitors, to "gamble" many hours with a minimum bankroll.  Almost every casino gives new player club members something.

And the "coupon books", specifically ACG, LVA MRB, and fun books all have "free money" type coupons.

I am probably the most "frugal" on the various Vegas forums.  I am a "casino whore", and I do not "gamble" without a coupon or promotion, with the exception of live poker or video poker.

Many would say that does not sound like fun.  For me, it is.  And my Vegas trips pay for themselves.  BUT, it is definitely not for everyone, and requires a tremendous amount of pre trip planning, and all the Vegas forums can provide useful informations.

Just spend time reading and learning and asking.

so if you are staying at Harrah's,  why are you asking advice on where to stay?
so those of us who want to bitch, are going to bitch.  and those who want to bitch about the bitching are going to bitch about the bitching.

Start signing up for emails with all the places.  Some of the offers aren't bad even though you may never have gambled in the place before.

I agree with Linda.Always get a players card.Weather it's at thecasino you are staying at or any place you visit up and down the strip. This is your lifeline to comps. This trip and any future trips.have a great time.

I strongly disagree with that!

There are many promotions, "loss rebates" for new members signing up, etc.  Most of the time, the loss rebates are for 24 hours or maximum amount, whichever comes first.  Or get xxx points and receive $xxx first day of play type promos.

If you register on the site, it may invalidate some of those "free money" opportunities, as their system may reflect you as a players club member for a longer period of time than the promo.

Also, many places will reward the player with FSP, buffet, free room, or something for providing their email address.

Personally, I don't give the casino "anything", unless I get something in return.  I also will not register for their players club if there is nothing worthwhile in doing so for me.  I figure my next trip, I may find they do have a sign up bonus.

However, I will not play at a casino I do not have a card at.  My #1 rule.  So I will leave after a little sightseeing, without putting anything into their coffers.

So, if I do enter a casino and they are not giving me a satisfactory sign up bonus, I do not register, and I do not play there.  I'll check again "next month" or whenever I'm back again.  I will often quietly speak with the CS supervisor if possible and not to time consuming, and explain that I'm leaving because there is no sign up bonus.  But, if they treat me to a buffet, I'll register and most likely play.  That tactic, historically, has and does work for me.

Unfortunately, there are not too many casino's left that I don't have a players club for.  :(

Since you are staying at a cHET property, you should be doing the Escape to Total Rewards game to try to win some comps.

Yeah, I suppose one could use a "friend" to sign up online, just to see what's what via email promos for first timers.

That's not my "style".  When I "whoring" casino's, I want to see their faces.  I get my kicks that way, the social engineering of a boothling or their stupidvisor often gives me great pleasure.

Yeah, I'm easy to please.  I "settle" for a deli comp for one by asking for the gourmet restaurant for four of us.  :)

I get notified of great offers from GN and a couple others ie: LVH and I haven't gambled there in 5 years. I would not know of the offers if I didn't sign up for their email. So I have no idea why you disagree with this as it costs nothing but a minute of time.
