Taking 77 Mom for her first time to Vegas.

I want to take my 77 year old Mom to Vegas for her birthday. She was once a beauty queen in the fifties so she has a flair for glamor and style. She is in OK health, but I am concerned about the amount of Walking and the overall logistics for her. Which Hotel for her is  my main concern. Her birthday is late in January she loves the pool scene, are there any that are open and accessible for her. Thanks to all in advance.

I'm going to vote for Bellagio. It will be cold then but they have a few heated pools open year round although I can't say they are that busy in winter...still I always see a few.  Good midstrip location to see other places and luxurious enough to meet her fancy side. people say it is smoky but I don't get much of that. ...and welcome!

The Bellagio, Caesars Palace and Paris area is a great place to visit.  You didn't mention a rental car so you could use taxis to get to other areas.

Some pools are open but forget "pool scene" and think more "plunge, shiver and run like hell to the hot-tub". Sorry but I would be more inclined to prepare her now by telling her that there is no such thing as a pool scene in Vegas in January.
If she would settle for a quick exciting dip, Golden Nugget has a water slide that goes right through a shark tank. Also, Downtown is MUCH better for getting around as far as walking distances go.

The  hotel interiors  Any thoughts on on the Aria or the Wynn? for her they both seem Big but would fit the Glamor part of the bill.

Wynn definitely fits the glamour part, as does Aria (albeit a hair less, in my opinion). The Golden Nugget downtown does, too, although not quite as over-the-top as some of the strip places -- it's more classic classy Vegas.

As far as the walking.....any casino on the strip has a lot of interior walking too. If she is in great shape and enjoys walking, has a good pair of walking shoes she will be okay. Plus if she gets tired she can always sit at a machine and run a few dollars through.

I got tired of doing the walk from Wynn to Encore, so I imagine if you brought up walking as a concern, this might be an issue. 

Aria is also big but somehow seems more connected in that you walk but at least get to see things and maybe even get to another hotel or two easier.

BUT, Wynncore is (generally) an easy walk to Venetian/Palazzo, which she might could enjoy if she enjoys shopping.  Plus, it has Bouchon...which is fancy (and tasty) breakfast HEAVEN.

One of the nice things about staying at Paris is everything is close by.  No long hallways, no long walk to get to the casino or restaurants, no long walk to get to the strip.  If walking is a concern, and it is for one of my older relatives, Paris is right there, center strip.  One can step outside and see the Bellagio Fountains.

Welcome to the site, Troy.  We took my mom to Las Vegas twice - first time we stayed at the Golden Nugget (this was before the pool was upgraded to the shark tank) and the second time we stayed at the Suncoast.  Mom mostly liked to be at the pool during the day.  Suncoast is too far off the strip - I wouldn't recommend that, but the Nugget is nice.  Are you planning on renting a car?  We did that with mom, that way we could drive wherever we wanted and it wasn't too hard on her.  The second time we took her to Red Rock Canyon and did the scenic drive.  Hope you have a great time there with your mom.

Because of the logistics, I would recommend either the Golden Nugget or Paris, for the reasons mentioned. Paris is a good location, but don't underestimate the distances involved in a simple trek to Bellagio and Caesars. We're talking hundreds of yards without wandering the interiors. If you stay at the GN and rent a car, you can drop mom off at entrances to Bellagio, Wynn, or Caesars and explore each one with her while keeping GN as a home base where any walking she does is manageable.

Since walking is a concern for your mother, what about maybe getting an electric scooter for her?  They are available for rental in Las Vegas.

And yes for walking between the casinos, Downtown casinos have much less distance between them and aren't as huge as ones on the Strip!

lol. I was reading through these replies intending to post the exact same advice about the scooter rentals when lo and behold, the very last post beat me to it. 

You'll see people on rented scooters all over the strip. It might be the perfect option. You wouldn't have to concern yourselves with which hotel has shorter strip access or worry about the distances between neighboring casinos. Stay center strip and go everywhere.

I can't agree with the GN for a first-timer. If your mom has never been, it's the strip all the way, IMHO. DO visit the downtown and take in one of the canopy light shows (The Doors is my favorite), but stay on the strip. Book one of the Cirque shows. Love or Mystere would be my first choices.

You might also want to go to the top of the Stratosphere tower at night for the view. Tip: Skip the elevator fee by going to the bar up there. You'll pay the fee for the drink, but at least you get something besides an elevator ride. The bar has full views all the way around earlier in the evening and once you're up there, you can go to any floor you wish (outside deck, for example.)

The bar and restaurant elevators load separately from the pay-to-ride elevators that go to the observation deck and the thrill rides. Look to the right of the main tower entrance on the second floor.

That's a great tip about the bar elevator at the Strat -- I never knew about that option.  I'd rather pay $10 or whatever for a drink and be up there, than pay $10 and only get up there.
