where to stay???
« on: March 16, 2011, 09:49:33 PM »
I am going to Vegas in April. It will be my third trip. I have stayed at RedRock on each of the other visits. I liked it well enough, but only stayed there because a good friend said it was one of her favorite places. I find it is too far from the fun and action I crave. Looking for recommendations on where to stay closer to or on strip.

How do you feel about downtown?  May I ask what game(s) you play and at what level?  Do you normally get comps where you're playing?

You'll  have a car?

What do you like to do in Vegas? Are you picky about paytables? or table game rules? Do you like to sitesee on the strip?
Are  you looking for future offers?

What I like to do is play better paying machines and I like low key,  so that puts me off strip.  Not for me, but a lot of people like the Palms due to
the better paytables and it's near the strip where all the action is.

My faves are M, South Point, Gold Coast and Silverton, the latter does not have good paying machines but I'm addicted to the nickle 100-plays.  My player
benefits in the past have always been strong, but unsure of the future.

If your into concerts Palms & Gold Coast are near the strip.  I go to a lot and still stay out at Silverton, M and SP ( been a while for SP but was very happy there.)  Personally, I find  the GC, Silverton, M and South Point great values when you factor in food and lack of crowds. :)

If your a foodie, M has a lot of good places to eat.  Also,  M is the only one that is as nice  as Red Rock but it' out there.

I'll let the strip experts chime in for the strip recommendations. Other than sightseeing or concerts I'm very out of touch with the hotels and what their serving up these days.
Best Regards,
Lolly

Wish I could help but I have not stayed on the strip since 1-96. Also like South Point and Silverton. Although I did spend 6 years at the Rio which is by Palms and close to the strip action. I liked the Rio just not who purchased it.

You gotta stay in a setting and a place that appeals to you.  That might sound trite but there's no uniform Vegas experience that pleases all.  Downtown, Strip, local; high-brow, low-down; slot heaven, VP haven; great food in house, food is fuel--we're all unique.

I don't like them, either... but I've been stiffing them since 2005 and they keep comping my rooms. Five out of five nights at the Rio in April and for out of five at PH in November.

And we all know it is easier to sleep if you do in a comped room.

Glad to see that gambling losses still = free!!  lol

Looks like we're doing a somewhat spontaneous trip up to Cosmo here soon, speaking of places to stay.

Are you paying or getting it comped (maybe doing a review?)?

Thinking about flipping over to Trop.  Still haven't stayed since the re-do.

Sure was brilliant of Boyd to knock down the 'Dust.  They're making a fortune off that new-age replacement.

The comped rooms sound delicious. But I fear I will be hungry in that regard. I haven't been gambling long enough to get any comps.  I never even had a players card until recently.  :-[
I love the gambling, but I also would like to be near shopping and shows. Good restaurants are a must.   I am lost in the kitchen but love to eat. So would that make the strip a better option? I am not sure if this will be a solo trip or if I will have company, but so far I am liking the rooms I see at Caesars the best. I am not sure if I will rent a car or just taxi my way around town. Last two times I had a rental but did I really need it? I don't really think so, but I would not like to be stranded. Thanks to everyone who chimed in. Much appreciated.

Well if you will be at Caesars and mainly hang around the strip may not be worth having a car. I know a couple who usually stay at the Trop and never get one they hang out in the area. But I stay at a "locals joint" SP. And I like to wander around so I would not be without one. Decisions...

If you don't mind the drive, M is lovely...and their buffet is the best in town IMO. In town I love Wynn. k
