But it is a dry heat...
« on: July 22, 2011, 09:29:31 AM »
Long time Vegas visitors will remember that humidity levels in Las vegas were in the single digits.  No longer.

Could all of those lakes and fountains and sweaty people actually raise the humidity levels in the valley ?

A few locals blame it on residential pools.

It has definitely become more humid here but it pales in comparison to FL during the same time of the year. That's why we prefer it here. More comfortable (in a relative sense) than a lot of the country without the risk of throwing your back out shoveling snow.

The comparison is between Vegas of 20 years and ago and Vegas now.

I had some links for highest and lowest humidity for major cities but the time range is from 1961-1990
This from a site titled www.currentresults.com. How's that ?

Phil, Fl's humidity during the summer gets real close to 100% and it isn't raining.

OK   Not sure what this has to do with the point of this thread.

Sorry, but with all those pools, and water displays, no wonder the humidity is rising over there.

The humidity is more from the golf courses and people trying to have green lawns like they did back home.

One needs to remember that July/August is monsoon season, dust storms, thunderstorms are typical for this time of the year and the rain is very much needed.  The seasonal shift of the winds brings much needed moisture (and humidity) to the desert southwest.

That does seem to be some high RH numbers for that area.

Well it seems the higher than usual humidity in LV was confirmed. I was talking to Courtney at SP yesterday PM. We talked a little more than usual. And somehow we got to the subject a dry heat. She said just has not been like that of late. Why is still a mystery though. She would appreciate it returning.
