Vegas bound Aug 17th
« on: July 28, 2013, 11:02:42 AM »
Hi everyone,

I was referred by Kelly from another board and she recommended you guys as a friendly group, so here I am  :P
I love Vegas, try to go once a year...this time I am going there in the middle of August because our pool team won a free trip to compete there in the APA Nationals, held at the Riviera.  Yippeee!!  I'm practicing pool 2 hours a day to get ready.  Our $4000 travel allowance didn't give us enough $ to stay at Riviera, so we're staying at El Cortez.   I'm a downtown Vegas girl anyway, our money will go further down there.
I'm the trip planner for the group of 8,  I love meeting new people on these forums, as you learn so much from others' experiences.  I'm especially looking for good deals, as we have some on our team that have severely limited funds. So I've bought an American Casino guide and maybe find some friends to trade coupons with.
Still waiting for car rental rates to go down...
Wishing best of luck to everyone on their next trip!
DJ

Welcome to the site, DJ!

:welcome:

I would seriously consider the El Cortez to be an upgrade from the Riviera -- I think you're going to be happy there.  Try to get one of the Cabana Suites (they're not really suites, but they're fairly new and (in my opinion) nicer than the tower roms).

Yes, welcome!  Downtown has better games and I think that it is easier to earn future comps in Downtown versus what you can get out of the Strip.

And food prices seem to be more reasonable Downtown Vs. the Strip.

Do you play Video Poker?  There is some better stuff at a lower denomination to play in Downtown.

The coupon book from the Las Vegas Advisor can be good as well but if you haven't already, you should check out what they offer to see if it would be worth it for you to make use of it.

And also, check out all of the good information (including the Top 10 Las Vegas Values) over on the Las Vegas Advisor website.

And their coupon book might be of good use for you or the others, so check out their website to see if the coupons that they offer would end up being worth it for you to get a subscription (which you can get for as low as $37).  If you want the coupon book mailed to you, you will have to add another $3.50 for Postage.

And also check out the Freebie magazines that abound in Las Vegas (including the "Vegas Values Coupon Booklet," "24/7 Magazine," "Vegas2Go," and "Today In Las Vegas" among others).

Also, check into http://www.tix4tonight.com (which has several locations around Las Vegas -- including one in Four Queens Casino Downtown -- which is not far from El Cortez) for Discount Buffets & Restaurants as well as shows.

The American Casino Guides are on sale now on the website for $10 or so; I'd order one for each person and save on shipping. You'll get your money's worth.

Low cost meals downtown -- consider Main Street Station buffet for breakfast. El Cortez coffee shop is New York circa 1950; I like it. You should be able to track down 2-for-1s for the Magnolia Room at The Four Queens.

Here are links to five Las Vegas magazines that can help to tell you what's what and from where you might also be able to get some coupons:

01). "24/7 Magazine"
http://www.247vegas.com

02). "Vegas Values Coupon Booklet"
http://www.247vegas.com

03). "Today in Las Vegas"
http://www.TodayinLV.com

04). "Vegas2Go"
http://www.lasvegasmagazine.com

and 05). "What's On In Las Vegas Magazine"
http://www.whats-on.com

I hope that this helps you!

But there also are some more magazines available around town, so keep your eyes open for them.

But if you are staying in Downtown LV, at least as far as I know, at least most of these magazines can be found between Plaza Casino, Four Queens Casino, and El Cortez Casino.  Maybe Golden Nugget Casino might have them as well.

I also should add in that for anyone who might want to get texted by Tix 4 Tonight so that you can receive Specials and Promotions, just Text the keyword "T4T7" to "56242" from your mobile phone.

You're very welcome, Champ!  I have to say that the powers-that-be at the other site at one point asked me to not to directly provide links to the other sources.  I think that this is possibly because they may view these other sources as their competition.  I still find decent value and a lot better information from that site.
