What's Jackie going to do now?  He was down at the tables nearly every day...

I've played there, but ONLY because I wanted to play with Jackie.  I would NOT have taken a seat in that room for almost any other reason, and considered it a very poorly run-managed room.  And I've played a lot of poker, and have been to, literally, hundreds of poker rooms within the contiguous USA, back in my "road trip" days.

Jackie was the only draw, far as I was concerned.

Interesting!  I know that that "Room" was actually a fairly small space and so maybe it just wasn't worth it for the casino to continue on with it.

Aw..that is sad news for Jackie.  I wonder if someone will escort him to another casino to play?

Roadtrip, I played there a looooong time ago. They used a plastic rat instead of a button at one table.

Jackie was the only reason people played there.

Breaking news ( :P ) from the site that has its finger on the pulse of Las Vegas happenings:

Quote from: Las Vegas Advisor "Today's News" section
March 10, 2014 08:51 Poker Room Closed: The poker room at the El Cortez has closed, further diminishing downtown's live poker options. Only Binion's and the Golden Nugget still have traditional poker rooms (the Plaza offers electronic games).

...only 64 days between when it closed and when it hit their Today's News section.  :)

I had the pleasure of playing one day with Jackie.  He was such a nice guy and would almost always show his hand after the betting was done.  He honestly didn't care if he won or lost...just enjoyed talking with people.  A great guy.

I played poker there once and they had to make sure that I didn't sit next to Jackie.  They would not allow him to sit next to a woman! I guess he could be pretty inappropriate so they did that to protect him.

Interesting stories about Jackie.  I said "hi" to him once and he said "hi" back -- that's about the extent of my interactions with him.

Wow!  Just yesterday I'm relating my contact with Jackie and today he died.  He lived for 93 constructive and meaningful years.  RIP.

RIP Jackie.

And at least the news/obituary in A Curtass's LVA news section indicates that the poker room closed earlier in the year...

Think about Jackie's empire downtown.  It was pretty spectacular in it's own way.

He sells off some properties and without his guidance the properties flounder.  He did a lot of good for downtown.
