Flipping Vegas
« on: April 12, 2014, 08:17:23 PM »
Anyone ever watch this show on A&E ?   I've just watched a few episodes. Lots of strange things go in this reality show.
His 'wife' Amy has been in each episode as a designer.  She is not listed in the credits as far as I can see.
He buys  real estate at auction apparently not seeing the property before he buys.

Hubby is watching it right now.

Yep they both are annoying but it's a Vegas fix so we watch it.  Google Goliath Company for some background info.

They call it 'flipping' since Scott flips out every episode because Amy blew the budget on some fuckin' premium linoleum or something.  Yeah.  I watch it.

It's all theater.  Just watched the latest episode last night.  That's the one where the foundation was compromised and the walls were tearing from the movement of the footers.  Instead of a proper repair, the crew supposedly ground down the cement to level where it was raised and dug out and added cement to other areas.  They never explained how they corrected or squared up the doorways, window openings or sheared walls.  If this were true, whoever purchased this house would be sitting on a ticking disaster after a few good rainfalls. The foundation could buckle up again.  Hopefully the buyers recorded the episode for replay in civil court.  In reality the show producers probably either did a proper repair or demoed the house after filming.  So much money involved in these "reality" shows that the amount earned from the original business pales in comparison to that earned from the show producers.  Eventually each episode strays farther from the truth in order to keep the show fresh and interesting.

I watch it and tend to get a kick out of it. I suppose I was more likely to watch it in the first place because it was Vegas themed.

The houses seem a bit staged, for sure, but I read a few articles where they claim it is pretty legit. A newspaper interviewed Scott and Amie and they said that the worst of the worst make it on the show.

There was an episode where they were renovating a condo-type unit, and couldn't get a buyer, so they instead did a rent-to-own arrangement. I checked the Clark County records (since the house numbers and general location were visible in that episode), and found that the eventual sales price was nowhere near what the show said the "first day offer" was. That property is now owned by a property management company based out east...

Offers really don't mean anything in real estate. Until a contract is signed, its just monopoly money.

You and I know that, but I don't think most people do. They see "First Day Offer: $300,000" and just say "Oh, they bought a house for $8 and put in $10,000 in improvements and sold it for $300,000! I want to get into that industry." lol

I've seen the show a few times - kinda interesting because it's Vegas.  About a month ago, Scott & Amie were in our area doing a "seminar".  Sounds like it's more lucrative to talk & teach people how to "flip", than it is to actually do it!!

Sounds like Bill Granoff's business model.

Sometimes his real estate agent, Gadie, will make an appearance.   She might be the yummiest woman in the whole city.
She should have her own show.
