Hi All! Just found out about this board.
« on: November 28, 2010, 12:05:57 PM »
Hi!  I only frequent Advisor when I am planning a trip, and since I am going again in January, I just went over there today.  Saw I had an invite to come and join this board from Mare.  Not sure what all of the trouble was about over there, but I am happy to join a new board!

My sub is up in December and not sure if I will renew.  Haven't looked at next year's POV or whatever they're calling it these days, but that will probably be the deciding factor for me.

Welcome Jen.

The deciding factor for me was the 2010 MRB.

No match plays, and big reductions in 50% for solo diners or BOGO buffets.   :(

I don't expect the 2011 to be any better for what I want.  :::shrug:::

We may not "see" the 2011 MRB offers until mid December or later.

Welcome, Jennifer! So glad you made it over here. :)

I may renew for the MRB (if it's good enough), but I will still post more here. I LOVE this board! We just need to keep getting all of the good posters from the other board to hang out here!

Welcome. I did the same thing last year. First did not renew because I wasn't happy with the 2010 MRB. Then opted to renew later on. The boards were a huge part of membership to me so that was also a deciding factor. I'll see what the 2011 MRB consists of which as Roadtrip said, may not be known until Mid to Late December or as in the case of last year maybe not even out until Jan. Then I'll decide what I want to do.

The ACG has a lot of good coupons in there and you can sang that on Amazon for under $13 bucks. Combine that with your new found home over here and you've got a pretty good value already. Both the ACG and MRB seem to have options that are unique to them so if you'll have to look at the list, compare and see what you feel is more important to you. Or you can just be like me and end up getting both this year. lol

To answer your question about what happend over there. The problem is probably two fold. One, the weaker MRB and then the beta message boards. They forced a change over to these new message boards which sucked. They had major attitude about it telling us to basically deal with it and when we all protested, they decided to switch back to the old format. During this whole process Kevin was nice enough to start these boards which are much faster and I'm liking more and more all the time. A lot of people were upset with LVA's lack of interest in their member's responses to the new boards. They basically were not listening to us. Granted some people were going to bitch no matter what, but it was a pretty legitimate bitch or they would not have changed back to the old boards. The boards are only as valuable as the people using/posting info on them and I think they were reminded of that real quick when usage dropped off.

Usage will never be "back to normal" over there, unless they  improve the MRB coupons.

Without match plays, and 50% off or BOGO buffets (so singles can use the coupon), to me there is not enough profit in the MRB to spend the $37.00.

I'm too frugal in Vegas to gain much, if anything, from non gaming coupons. Find dining discounts mean nothing, my budget for food is in the $25.00/day range max, and I seek, and usually succeed in reducing that to much less.

It is more expensive to replace a customer than to keep a customer. I'm not certain LVA feels that way.

For someone who was an advantage player & card counter, and acknowledges personally using hundreds of match play coupons in one day during his player days, his current position on match plays seems somewhat hypocritical.

JMHO, of course.  :)

No it's not. Today I was not even there. I guess subscribers like to feel like they matter. Which seems to be a good business model

We know that!

Of course, some users may only be here for the free T-shirt offer.  :)

I agree. And what's even more BS is why it's apparently too much work or out of reach to get those when ACG can do it.

Then tell us the boards are changing and it's just too damn bad if we don't like it. Then come back and eat your words because they sucked and we aren't posting anymore.

How about this, "Sorry I've just been to busy to round up all those good match play offers. You die hard's buy the ACG anyway so I think I'll let them take care of those and I'll give you these other deals instead. Sorry I didn't really give a shit about the message boards. I was assured this new service would be great and obviously it wasn't. I really should have thought twice before telling all of you to shove it if you don't like it. I guess I get to eat my words for a bit. Turns out apparently what you guys have to stay matters. I thought only what I had to say mattered. I guess a lot of you feel your sharing of information with each other on my slow ass message boards is worth the cost of membership. To those of you who gave up on me, please come back and pay me some more money."

Maybe not exactly like that but something similar seems to be in order. It just seems like either he's really been this way all the time and we just didn't know it or something has changed with him and his view of what he stands for and us as members. Because he's really made a lot of pepole feels like he could care less about what we want as members.

I can only remember using three MRB coupons on my last trip. I had an envelope full of ACG's I used. It really depends on what you are looking for. I think one needs to look at the lists and see what the EV is for gaming coupons and what you are saving with the non-gaming coupons. Take the $50 off at Palms for example or some of the 2 for 1 show or Buffet options. If you really are needing to purchase two and not just going solo there is some money to be saved that could easily still make it worth it. Same with the buy one night get one free etc for hotels. The problem I see with the 2 for 1's on buffet's or shows is that they are everywhere and not just exclusive to LVA so that makes it less of a value. But they do have some that are harder to find elsewhere. All goes back to how you plan to use it and if it's going to fit what you have in mind. For me going solo this last time I don't think I got my $37 out of the MRB. But I also need to remember that $37 was for the message boards and newsletter. Depending on how next years list looks I could be looking at $37 for just the newsletter and I'll be out then for sure.
