I am returning to Vegas after being away for 10 years and we are going to travel there Sept 29th until
Oct.03 2013
Hubby is turning 60 while we are there and wondering what we can do to celebrate his day. Just wondering I saw a Pawn Star tour is this tour good and also if I could get any dixcounts for this tour as it will cost me 140 US (i am from Canada) but he loves Pawn Stars and all that is associated with it. Not sure where we are going to stay so any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Say we are going to stay on the strip New York New York maybe only interested in slots.
we would like to site see...I have looked but cant find anything in regards to movie stars as to where they live or anything like that We have been to the Hoover Dam.

BTW when i access this site on my ipad I cannot respomd from my ipad there is no reply nutton there I had to go to my main comp to respond..do you know if there is a fix for that?

I do not know of a fix for that, but we have a couple of ipad users here who might.  Also a tech savvy fellow who posts under the handle knagl may have some insight for you.

I'm sure a couple of other members will offer you some ideas.

I stopped at the Pawn Stars shop last September.  It is on Las Vegas Blvd between strip and downtown, closer to downtown and easy to get too.  Always seemed to be a line waiting to get in when I drove by during the day, they had misters set up around the building to keep the crowds cool, so I suspect long lines are an every day occurrence.  We stopped a half hour or so before they closed the doors, no line and we were able to walk right in.  Can't recall the exact time, was just getting dark when we left so perhaps 8-9 pm.  Although the shop is open 24 hrs, they do not let people in after closing at 8 or 9.  Have to do business through a window after that.  They sell a lot of t-shirts, hats, and souvenir stuff for Pawn Stars aficionados.  I found the store itself underwhelming but worth a stop if you are passing by and fans of Pawn Stars.  Not familiar with the Pawn Stars tours.

If you get downtown, go to the Four Queens, used to give out coupons for a free meal in Magnolias (coffee shop) the month of your birthday at the Players Club.  Players card required.

Same basic comment as mooneye. I hadn't heard of such a thing as a tour of Pawn Stars. You might try visiting the pawn shop around 11 in the morning. There was no line the day we went, and the store was not too busy. Don't expect to see any of the big four, and don't expect to see that much interesting stuff. Half the store has been given over to Pawn Stars t-shirts, bobbleheads, and such. Prices of actual pawn items are not good. It was still okay to see it.

Edited to add: Just don't assume that what you see on the show ever occurs in the day-to-day operation of the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop. There are carefully planned filming sessions that you'll probably never get into. Pawn Stars is reality television, which has only a tangential relationship with reality reality.

The Hello screen for this site has a separate entrance for the  "mobile version," which I assume includes ipads. Did you use that entrance?

You are the first person to report an issue with replies on an iPad.  Are you using the Quick Reply box at the bottom of the thread, or the full reply page (accessed by the small "reply" tab at the top or bottom of the thread, or by clicking on the "Quote" button to quote someone's post and go to the full reply page)?  If you're using the Quick Reply box I'd suggest trying the full-fledged reply page to see if that works better with your device.  If it's an issue in both places, let me know and I'll be happy to look into the issue further.

As far as the Pawn Stars deal, I've visited the (rather small) Silver & Gold Pawn Shop in downtown -- I can't imagine that there'd be much worth spending over $100 on for a tour, but I guess to each their own.  You might want to consider visiting the store in person, first, before committing to spend that kind of money on a tour of a pretty small business.

(PS. bardolator brings up a good point.  If you're still having issues with replying from your iPad even after trying the full reply page, you can try the mobile version of the site at m.lvadvice.com .  I'd consider that to be a last resort, though, as the mobile version of the site is text-based only and is pretty crude.  It's great for older mobile devices, but a little outdated by modern standards.)


Edited to add: One final thought, too, is that the reply button doesn't appear if you visit the site without logging in.  You'll be able to see all of the posts in the "free for everyone" section, but won't be able to reply.  Click on the login navigation at the top of the page to get your iPad logged in to the site.

Testing ipad. I just hit reply  on my iPad.  For me it was the same steps as my Mac.

We have been to Vegas other times its just been 10 years since our last visit..dealing with the death of our young son, and me have cancer twice now back to back..but now in remission so we have a lot to celebrate now.

I love it when it's a simple fix. 

As far as the tour... I guess it's ultimately up to how you want to spend your time in Vegas.  I personally wouldn't do it (I'd just drive to the pawn shop and anywhere else), but I'm not a huge fan of the show.  Your husband, however, would likely get a lot more out of the tour than I would since he's a big fan.

For coupons, there's the American Casino Guide which is full of coupons.  (Here's a complete list of the coupons in it.)  When you're in town, you can find discounts for some shows and also dining at the various Tix4Tonight locations.  Don't forget to print one of their coupons to save a couple of bucks off of each show ticket service charge.

Depending on how long you plan to be out there, you might find value in a $37 membership to the Las Vegas Advisor, which includes a number of coupons.  Just don't expect to get much value out of their message forum, at least until it's fixed next February.

Since I don't know if littlelulu knows much about the LVA website, I will say that although some of it is kinda down (like the Archives), at least the Message Board works (well, it works for me) and there is more information there for her with the paid side Message Board (and she doesn't have to pay $50 for that stuff unless she also wants to have the hard [printed out] edition of the Las Vegas Advisor).
