New Migration and Zip Line Question

Hi All,

I have discovered this board when I read the 13 part trip report on the the quest for Diamond Seven by Sinloa (?).  It was very well written and I appreciated it.  I've also been to a couple of meet ups from the other board back in the day when we used to meet at the 777 Brew Pub.  Always enjoyed those.  Hope to find and share some info here.   

I did place a bet and buy into the Rio Voodoo Zip Line on that crowd funding site awhile ago.  Think it cost me $125 or so for a lifetime pass.  Reading in the LVA and elsewhere that the chances of this coming about are on par with the Cubs winning the pennant.  I knew it was a long shot at best, so not complaining about the loss.  Just wondered if anyone has heard anything new or has any info about it.

I'll be in Vegas in a week and hope to report on my winnings

I purchased 3 VIP passes for the VooDoo Zipline ($75.00) from the INDIEGOGO site for my December Trip.  The ZipLine people refunded my money when it was clear it wasn't going to happen.  I can put you in touch with one of the project consultants Joe Shortal if you're looking for a refund...

Appreciate the info on the zip line.  I think I'll just hang in there and see what happens on my deposit for the "lifetime" pass.  If it never gets built, I'll still save money because I won't have to pay for the rides of the guests I'd be taking there.  I'm sure the guys promoting this have gotten plenty an earful already - so I'll just let them be.

I have a couple free nights at the Palms and might stay there Sun/Mon, but I did purchase a place up by Sante Fe Station a few years ago.  Plan on moving next year, God willing.  In the mean time I get out for a visit two, three times a year.  So I'll be staying there for the week.

I'd wait it out too if I had purchased the lifetime pass instead of one time passes for a specific trip.  The lifetime pass for a hundred twenty five bucks could end up being a great deal if they open and stay open a while. 

In terms of their current status, I just saw a plan review of the Zip Line from the Las Vegas Department of Building and Fire Prevention Bureau dated January 21, 2014.  The review had 30 items that needed to be addressed before the plan review could continue.  Some of the items seemed like pretty simple corrections to documentation while others looked to be significant additional analysis required...like documentation and testing of the air braking system or finalizing evacuation procedures  and equipment and having the Las Vegas Fire and Rescue and the Las Vegas Fire Department certify the ride is evacuatable. 

Also, many point to the fact that there is no line strung between the buildings as an indication that it's nowhere close to completion.  Still, they are having a job fair shortly and claim to be opening in March. 

Now back in December, Joe said that "While the ride has been constructed and is in place, we have not been issued our ride permit by the Clark County Building Department in order to operate the zipline. They are the governing body for all rides in Clark County and unfortunately we will not get our ride permit until sometime in January." 

I don't know how the 'ride can be in place' if there is no line to zip on.  Maybe the final assembly is the easy part of it.  Just lift the cable up 50 stories and attach it to all of your pre-staged mountings and turn the thing on.  The engineering and approval process looks like a nightmare...as well it should be on an amusement ride where there is the distinct possibility of death if they forgot something important.

I'm so sure it will be opened by my next December trip with my gambling buddies, we've already got 5 nights at the Rio comped.  It will be our home base for the trip.
