My LYFT Experiences
« on: November 09, 2015, 01:24:56 PM »

The Lyft drivers were telling us that they need more advertising in Vegas. I am doing my part to spread the word about what great service they provided on my trip. :)

Thanks for sharing your experiences. The 10 free rides seems to be pretty well timed with the launch of their service. They did the same for a while then they launched in Minneapolis, and I believe now they offer a $20 credit to all new customers.

The only thing I don't like about Lyft (when compared to Uber) is that tipping is an option. With Uber, the price is the price, and granted, it is a little bit higher. Uber drivers won't even take a cash tip from you (or shouldn't, per the terms of their agreement with the company).

I know you are hesitant to put in a CC, but Uber also has partnered with Capital One. Anyone with their QuickSilver card is currently reciving a 20% statement credit for all Uber fares. The promo was set to expire this August, but has been renewed through April of 2016.

Thanks again for sharing - I love Uber and Lyft!

Yes..I am very reluctant to put my CC out there.
Westie...whom you all know and love...has had his CC hacked twice on trips.
I don't use it unless I have to because that is the last way I want to spend my Vegas time,
canceling credit cards!

Absolutely understand. It has happened to me several times as well. For the most part, I have one credit card that I use only for travel, and I always carry a backup.

Also, if it's reassuring at all, the Uber drivers have no access to your credit card or any of your details for that matter. That is all handled on the back-end by Uber's computer systems, which I am sure are as heavily secured and monitored as possible, but things still happen. :)

For those hesitant about using a credit card, KEYWORD:  Prepaid debit card.

I use my PayPal for almost everything, since I also get cashback on purchases.  But there are a variety of prepaid debit cards available, just load a $100 and you're good for awhile.  ::: shrug :::

Uber, & Lyft are, IMHO, filling a need, better than taxis, and Lyft has been very generous with promotions.  October, all rides were 50% off.  Than I received 3 rides 50% in November, so far.

Coupled with the initial sign up bonus for free rides, and they seem to be a no brainer.

And if you refer someone, there is more bonus.  Would be happy to send anyone referral links for either Uber or Lyft.

A word to the wise isn't necessary, it's the stupid ones that need advice.

My Citibank credit cards offer "virtual account numbers" -- I can create a one-time use credit card number that is just as if I used my real card number, but if it gets stolen it won't do the thief any good since it's one-time use.  Of course, that wouldn't work for a recurring billing situation like I imagine Lyft or Uber does.

It might. Give them a one time use number when the account is created. The first bill works fine. On each subsequent billing attempt, the company will email you that there was a problem with your CC. Go online and input a "new" card. Rinse, repeat.
If you place a statistician's head in dry ice and his feet in boiling water, then on the average he is fairly comfortable but his comfort has a large variance.

Most people have more than the average number of legs.

Just call me the "quad kickers" of deuces wild and double bonus poker.
