I'm always way too uncomfortable to sleep on a flight home from Vegas. I can't *really* sleep on any flight, but on most I can close my eyes and maybe doze off for a few minutes, but I think my mind and senses are still racing coming home from Vegas... and oddly, to Minneapolis, we mostly get late night/red eye flights.

I've trained myself to sleep anywhere under virtually any conditions.

There was only one time I was able to sleep on a plane. I tas because I was not feeling well, probably from lack of sleep. It was, after all, a return flight from Vegas.

Thanks for sharing the article.  My flights to/from Vegas are short, an 75-80 minutes or so.  Have never slept on a flight to Vegas - the passengers seem to be a bit amped up, so it's noisier.  I'm excited myself, so probably can't fall asleep even if I wanted to. The return flight, though, I've slept for about a half hour.  The mood on those flights is a bit somber - go figure.

I always choose a window seat (even on the short flights I take there are people who have to use the toilet).  Also, SWA doesn't have drink carts, but it's more the passengers who either swing their big bags down the aisle or can't walk a straight line down the aisle.  No aisle seat for me.

I never bother reclining because it always seems rude to me. I know I am not happy when someone in front of me reclines, so I don’t do it to other people.

Are you able to purposefully fall asleep in 15-20 minutes or less under other circumstances? I do know two people who can just nod off at literally a moment's notice but it's not common.

Personally, take off is my favorite part of the flight so I'm always alert. I like the acceleration (and the danger, I guess, given that it is technically the most dangerous part of any flight.) Some planes even get moving faster than my Corvette allegedly used to move before they leave the ground. :rotf:  Interestingly, many don't.

If you place a statistician's head in dry ice and his feet in boiling water, then on the average he is fairly comfortable but his comfort has a large variance.

Most people have more than the average number of legs.

Just call me the "quad kickers" of deuces wild and double bonus poker.

Shoot, I know I can. I get into bed, and I am out in less than 5 minutes every night.

Fair enough, but bed isn't the same as sitting in seat on a plane just before takeoff, with all of the hustle, bustle and noise around... or sitting in a crowded airport terminal, for that matter -- and at least the plane seat is somewhat comfortable. Being able to deliberately nod off in less than five minutes (not just because you're dead tired) for a quick snooze under noisy, crowded uncomfortable conditions is not common.
