best vp casino?
« on: September 30, 2012, 11:22:43 PM »
We are coming to Vegas in Dec.for the winter. As far as I can tell -South Point with their point system and advertised 99% payback on video poker seems to be the best bet. Does anyone here know of any better deals?  Thanks a lot

Welcome to the site!

:welcome:

Part of the answer depends on your game of choice and denomination.  Do you have a preferred game?

Also, do you know about http://www.VPFree2.com/ ?  That site has a great lookup tool that shows the best video poker games available in most casinos.

We're glad to have you here, and look forward to hearing more about your upcoming trip.

To me, better VP means the theoretically highest expected return of the game + slot club benefits.

Station Casinos have better VP available than South Point, but not certain how their point system compares.  If it is important Station Casinos have average to above average buffets that are pretty cheap, while South Point's buffet is not described that way.

Sam's Town also has better VP than South Point, but not certain how their point system compares.

A great many factors determine what makes the best VP for you, so the more specific you are about what you are interested in, they more help you will receive.  A few of the members here are both serious about VP and quite knowledgeable.

Welcome aboard.

Welcome to the group, we love new members!

One of my favorite for full pay and all around casino is Aliante  Station out in north L.V.     Machine and food selection is very good.  It also has a movie theater which I love. You can get discount movie tickets at Costco.  If your a senior look for discounts on their site.   LOTS of food specials normally.    If no food special is going on you can count on reasonable prices.   In November Aliante will be going through changes, dropping the name Station and will be run by it's creditors if I'm understanding things correctly.   How the change is going to effect things is unknown.

If it were me coming in for the winter, I'd move around to different Station properties,  Sam's Town, South Point and downtown.

I hope you'll have transportation!
Best Regards,
Lolly

Welcome to the board!

If you're going to be in Vegas for the winter, you have plans to stay somewhere. Pick a place or places that offer good VP (as shown on VP Free) and are relatively close to where you are staying. Certain benefits such as free rooms won't figure into your equation if you have a place, but cashback will and food comps and quality might. I would get bored playing at just one place all winter. Would you?

Most of the people on this site are tourists. Although you can't show a Nevada driver's license, which may be required for some promotions, in most other ways you'll be a local. Many perks we covet, such as lounge privileges and suite upgrades, would not appeal nearly as much to a local as they do to some of us. Also, being a local opens certain opportunities that tourists can't take advantage of very well and might not even be aware of. Where you play a certain day of the week might be influenced by specials you can find in the newspaper or on a casino website. Get in touch with some locals to see what they suggest.

Thanks for the replies. We have been to Vegas before, but spent 30 years in Laughlin-done all our gambling at the Ramada, before they changed all their poker machines and got greedy. I guess some idiot bought them out and then went bankrupt-Good. We were VIP's there and got anything we wanted free. We already have an RV space rented for 3 months. I usually play Bonus poker and the station casinos and sams town only pay 35 for a full house and their point systems are not that good. We used to play keno machines, when they had signs on them that said they paid back 92% and we hit lots of jackpots. But the signs are gone, so I guess they changed the chips in them because they sure don't pay like they used to. i guess we'll try South Point Thanks

Red Rock Resort (a Station property) has 8/5 BP (where a full house pays 40 coins) for quarters at most all of its bars.  I know there's a limited amount of full pay games in designated banks at other Station properties, too.

A lot of the folks here like South Point. Keep us updated while you're out there. I'm jealous of you getting to spend three months out there!

Actually we're staying at an RV park on Boulder hwy, so we will probably also be visiting the old El Cortez and anywhere else where they have the old style keno machines-we don't like the multi-screen kenos.  You may have seen our picture on facebook. Last Feb.my brother Joe passed away with cancer. We went to MI. for the funeral, After the arrangements we went to Fire Keepers casino and on the way my wife looked up to the sky and said "OK Joe, we're going to your casino, so bring us some luck" After playing for a couple of hours, my wife's machine shut down and the lights went dim and thunder came over the speakers. We didn't know what the hell was going on. I guess a computer picked her machine for the Red Lightning Jackpot for $110,768. Believe it or not. They are still showing our picture with the check in their ads in Michigan.  Thanks again

Wow, what a hit!  Congratulations to you both!

They still have some old-school light-pen keno games on the 2nd floor of the D Las Vegas casino (formerly Fitzgeralds).

Welcome to the board.  I am not sure where you got your information about Station Casinos' pay schedules, but I would recommend checking out VPFree2 prior to your arrival.  There are lots of 8/5 bonus poker machines at most of the Station/Fiesta casinos. For example, assuming you are a quarter player, Fiesta Henderson has 8 slants; GVR has several bar tops plus there are 10 BP progressives and  Palace Station is loaded with them including some bar tops with progressive. Sam's Town is also loaded with full pay BP including 17 progressives.

As far as their respective point systems are concerned - I assume you are referring to slot club returns.  The slot club return for Stations and South Point are the same = 0.30%.

OK, I guess I didn't look around enough the last time I was in vegas. Thanks. Stations and sams town are going to be a lot closer than South Point. Vpfree2 must be having some website trouble. The first couple of days I couldnt sign up and now I cant login.

Hmm.  You should be able to browse all of the information there without having to sign up or log in.  Try this link, and then just click on a casino name in the list to find more information:
