Going to Las Vegas Thursday for the first time!
« on: March 25, 2013, 08:47:55 PM »
I have been reading this forum, and others, since we began planning our first trip to Las Vegas.  Thanks to all of you for the lessons and tips I have picked up on the internet.
We leave Thursday and will return home Sunday. We're staying at the MGM on a charity auction purchase made at our church fund raiser. $65.00/night and that includes two buffets tickets at Bellagio. We also have tickets to see Cirque from the same church fundraiser. (Tickets were $40.00 each for a choice of "Love" or "O") We will be celebrating out 30th anniversary, and also will be renewing our vows at one of the chapels. Not certain which one yet, I want "Elvis", she wants romance. (Imagine that, after 30 years.)
Neither of us have ever been to Las Vegas, or any casino before and naturally do not expect to gamble very much. We both have worked too hard for our money to risk gambling it away.
I will write again about our trip Sunday afternoon when we reach home.

Wow! Great prices! It seems you will have your hands full. Enjoy your trip: Vegas has a lot to offer besides gambling.

Enjoy and good luck.....a few suggestions for you:

  • a night time walk by Bellagio is something not to be missed
  • a gondola ride at the venetian would be pretty romantic
  • attend church in Vegas - I've attended the Catholic church near the Wynn and it is an event with violins / orchestra and chips in the collection basket
  • the bachanal buffet at Ceasars is outstanding - go for the last 45 minutes of breakfast and enjoy lunch @ breakfast prices
  • if you want to gamble - seek out the Lion's Share slot machine at the MGM - a single machine that must pay out before it is retired.  The jackpot is > $2.3m cash and if you win, you keep the machine

Enjoy!

Welcome aboard.

Neither of us have ever been to Las Vegas, or any casino before and naturally do not expect to gamble very
much. We both have worked too hard for our money to risk gambling it away.

Famous last words.  ;D  The casinos make it really easy for you to gamble, and gamble too much:

* To get anywhere, you're likely to have to go through a large portion of the casino
* The first place you see when you enter a new place will probably be the casino
* Those pretty slot machines are noisy in ways that are designed to entice you - pseudo coins, jackpots, WHEEL!  OF!!  FORTUNE!!!
* You'll probably like the music the casinos pipe in - it's designed to keep you there for just one more song, then another, and another...
* Those funky scents the casinos like to pump in (some more than others) are scientifically proven to keep you there longer

Have a wonderful trip.  Looking forward to the report.

Elvis is dead. Go for romance. You can't go wrong with either "Love" or "O". Don't sit close.

Set a loss limit and stick with it. Also set a win limit, by which I mean that if you should find yourself ahead a hundred or two, or whatever you decide, WALK AWAY and never return. Five of the saddest words in Las Vegas are, "I gave it all back."

Oh, no! Kardashians have landed.

Ya got me, whoever you are. Could this be R.S. infiltrating Kevin's pristine, if not virginal, website?

I'm watching this thread with amusement.  We'll see what happens if Mr. Janus returns from his Vegas trip.  :P

I wonder if Hugh Janus is a cousin of Mike Hunt.
so those of us who want to bitch, are going to bitch.  and those who want to bitch about the bitching are going to bitch about the bitching.

I would like to apologize to everyone for my original and apparent choice of a user name.
While online and during registeration for the forum, I asked my step son to "give me a name and finish registering me for an account" while I went to the kitchen for another beverage.
He was upset at the time that we would be leaving him home, alone with his older sister, instead of taking him with us to Las Vegas.
His prank is funny in retrospect, but please don't tell him I said that. He was brought up better than "that", knows better, and well, I think I've said enough about that.  I was not certain what the fuss was about, just did not get it either.
I decided that I should change it, and obviously have. Hope you do not mind. I'll be using this name instead.
Again, please accept my sincere and heartfelt apology.
We leave tomorrow, and have included some of the suggestions you have made. Thank you.
We are so very excited about this adventure.

I vote you stick with the original name.  It has a nice ring to it.

Down here in sunny Cape Coral, that new handle makes one think of our local Kia dealer. He ends every TV ad with the word HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE!!!

Is that you, Billy?  ;D  Anyway, have fun and write us a TR.
