Profile Picture?

I can't find out how to add my small profile picture.  I know how to add pics to the post, but I've gone through my entire profile, and can't find where you can upload your profile picture.  Can someone help me?

Go to: Profile  (Top of forum page choices)

On left column of choices, Under "Modify Profile", click: "Forum Profile Information"

Check: "I will upload my own picture"

Browse your computer to find

Upload

Than "Change Profile" bottom right of page

That should do it.

The software seems to have trouble if your picture is HUGE in size (number of pixels and/or file size).  You can do one of a few things in this case -- 1) if you have the software to do so, resize your photo down to a smaller size.  2) upload it to TinyPic.com (and use one of the resizing options from the drop-down on the main page, then use the "Direct Link for Layouts" URL in the "I have my own pic" section of your profile settings.  Or... 3) if that's too much, feel free to just e-mail me with the picture you want to use and I'll be happy to add it for you.

That's a pretty common restriction on total file size for a small profile pic/icon not unique to here by any means. Hope you get it re-sized soon. It's nice when your personalization works and you have everything just the way you want it.

That's a pretty common restriction on total file size for a small profile pic/icon not unique to here by any means.

The thing is, the forum software is supposed to be able to resize and reduce file size of oversized images to make them into user avatars.  It seems to fail at some unknown resolution of picture (and larger), however.  For example, if someone tries to upload a 1024x768 picture fresh from their digital camera as their avatar, the site is supposed to accept the upload, resize the image into something much smaller, and then make it into the user's avatar.  Instead, it just can't seem to handle files that are larger than ___?____.

It works perfectly with "medium" sized pictures -- it'll resize them down and it works great, but there's a point where it can't handle larger images.

Not a huge deal, as there are alternatives as I mentioned in my reply (#5) above, so I'm not rushing to try and debug the thing.  I'm not a hardcore programmer at all, but more of a geeky end user.
