Tipping Limo Drivers?
« on: October 11, 2013, 02:46:08 PM »
So, I need some help.  In a few days, I'll begin using my many trips offered to me and all of them include limo service to and from the aiport.

I've never used this service before.  How much should I tip the driver?  I don't want to be too generous, and I don't want to be a cheapskate either.

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Like you, Jon, this isn't something I do very often.  Most recently, last year, my host sent a limo to pick me up from the Reno Airport - the drive back to the Atlantis was only 5-6 minutes, he took my bag and carried it in to where I checked in.  I was the only passenger.  I gave him $10.  Not sure if it was too little or too much.

I kinda think it depends on how long the drive is, what they do for you, etc... In Vegas, a limo from one property to another was worth $10 to me -- from the airport, $20. A pickup from the airport to Harrah's in New Orleans is quite the drive -- we tipped $30 each time.

Some drivers are very helpful with your bags, or will stop at a store and let you get drinks to take with you, etc... That obviously should be factored into their tip.

I have always tipped $20 in Vegas for airport pickups to the hotel.   You may tip more if your ride is extra long from the airport in whatever city
so those of us who want to bitch, are going to bitch.  and those who want to bitch about the bitching are going to bitch about the bitching.

$15 is what I usually go with unless the service is terrible

Friends who use Limo's to and from the airport tell me that  a minimum of $20.00 is usual.
I don't really understand why a $30.00 cab fare gets $5.00 and a $50.00 Limo fare gets $20.00 - for the same trip. I really don't get it.  Maybe it is time that we stopped looking for what everyone else does, and just do what sounds sensible to us.

On a similar note, 2 people go into a buffet and leave $5.00.
A Wedding party go to the same buffet and get dinged 18 percent! It is getting really silly!

I tipped $20 or $25 in NOLA.  Considering my flight arrived 3 hours late a little past midnight, I was glad I scheduled a limo.

I had a complimentary limo ride to the airport last Sunday from Downtown and I tipped the driver $5.00.   Last year I was told that a limo Driver would be happy if he got $5 each time he made a trip.  It sounds like some people don't tip drivers the same as they don't tip cocktail servers.  I will admit I forget to tip housekeepers when I am in Vegas unless I notice the little card on the nightstand when I am leaving.  It's just hard for me to tip somebody I don't see.

We always use limo service to/from airport to hotel.  Stretch limo service is $75.00 if you had to pay.   We tip $20.00 for the 2 of us each way.  Additional passengers we add $5.00/each.  Ceasars limo drivers are very helpful and meet you at baggage claim.   Request Darla to be your limo driver if you are staying at Ceasars.  She is terrific!

When staying at property that does nmtnoffer limo service, we always opt for a sedan instead of standing in cab line.  Well worth the $35.00 and pickup right outside of baggage claim.
