"And please Bard, do not take offense......you have just written something that both of us can completely agree on! Who'd have thought that one day we could actually share an opinion?"

Fritz, the vast majority of my friends, including all of my fishing friends with whom I spend hundreds of hours in small boats, have a conservative outlook. When one of them says something political, I try to express agreement with whatever he says that is "wholly substantiated by facts," to quote another current thread. Otherwise, I try to say as little as possible.

It is bad to lose arguments with these guys, and much worse to win. These guys are and will remain my friends, and their feelings are hurt more easily than mine because most of them are true believers while I am mostly a skeptic.

I decided before the election of 2012 that it was pointless to discuss politics with true believers ON EITHER SIDE. It is the biggest reason that I have been using the quote from Penn Jillette as my sig. What conclusions others make about how I think or feel is pretty much out of my control.

My response:

LVA's cash value to me decreased as the match plays dried up.  The customer service of the staff has always been excellent, but the owner seems to have no clue and this has even gotten worse in recent years..  The forums are really a train wreck.  However, who doesn't like to watch a train wreck, so I signed up again for another year.

They had a poll?

Actually I rarely, if ever see the home page. The QoD has never really interested me, the polls, even less so. I don't think I've ever participated in one actually.

I honestly have no problem with Anthony or his site.   The coupon book isn't as good as it used to be but its still a good value.   Is Anthony an arrogant prick?  Sure.  So are most of his critics.  So am I.   Most men are arrogant pricks.   Thats part of whats fun about being a man.        I think Donald Trump is far more arrogant than Anthony and I still watch his TV show and visit his casinos.   If I boycotted every arrogant businessman in the country I'd have to become Amish and relocate to Lancaster, PA.

I do think it is hard to run a large message board and keep everyone happy.  I don’t even have a problem with him arrogantly expressing his views as some put it.  To me AC is sort of like a boxer that wins a fight that he knows is rigged, but nevertheless insists on thumping his chest and declaring himself king of the world after the match.

The results are there now, and quoted below for those who may miss them.  ::: shrug :::

Quote
1910 Total Votes

(869)  Yes: I’m a loyal member of LVA and renew every year. Love all your stuff!    (45%)

(314)  No: I visit Las Vegas regularly/am a local but I still don’t think I’d get enough value from a $37 LVA annual membership.    (16%)

(291)  Other: None of these answers closely matches. My Yes/No is because.... (email us via the next page)    (15%)

(190)  No: I used to be a subscriber but I let my membership lapse because I no longer visit Las Vegas.    (10%)

(78)  No: I think your competitors like Groupon, Living Social, ValPak etc. offer better value and I can hand-pick deals I like.    (4%)

(64)  Yes: I’m a new member of LVA and was inspired to join because of ... (the coupons? the newsletter? the forums? email us what inspired you!)    (3%)

(46)  No: I’m only interested in free stuff and out of principal refuse to pay for anything, even if it will save me money.    (2%)

(26)  No: I didn’t even know you HAD a membership program. What is it and why should I join?    (1%)

(25)  No: It’s personal. I realize LVA’s good value but I simply don’t like you and don’t want to give you a penny, although I still come here for all the free stuff.    (1%)

(7)  No: I visit/live in Vegas but don’t ever go to a buffet, eat in a restaurant, drink in a bar, sleep in a hotel, gamble in a casino, or go to a show, so why on earth would I join LVA?    (0%)

Thanks to everyone who took the time to vote in this poll. We received such a high volume of email feedback that we're going to run the choicest responses (plus a little commentary of our own) as Monday's QoD, so tune in then for some useful, bizarre, and at times hilarious feedback.

LOL, only 45% support.  One would think that even AC would have to stop and think about that one.

It won't be long before some young, dynamic personality will build a site to compete with Mr Flowers.......personally, I can hardly stand the wait.

The selected replies are up.  As I expected, they were pretty snarky with those that didn't agree that their subscription was the most wonderful bargain on earth (maybe from some of you?  Go see - it's free, at least for today).  But they told at least one whopper - in reply to someone that said they visited between Christmas and New Year's, as most of the coupons were expiring, the LVA staffer (don't think it was  this time) said "virtually all our deals expire on Dec. 31".  Not true - at least it wasn't last year.  A quarter of them expired before Christmas, and THREE-QUARTERS expired on Dec. 30 or earlier.  I know because I got out my book and counted - something which they couldn't be bothered to do, apparently.

LOL, I did the same thing Fremont.

I knew that that could not possibly be correct, because we used to go between the holidays too.  So I looked it over......a whopping 8 coupons expire on 12/31.  Wouldn't you think someone would check before saying something like that to their customer base?  8 coupons would hardly qualify as 'virtually all of our deals expire on 12/21'.  And the arrogance of the statement leads me to believe that it likely was AC answering.

Some of the comments they posted today are interesting.

This one in particular seems like it was written by someone who is (or should be) a member here.

What's particularly telling, is the editor's snarky reply.

DJ,
That does look like it would be from one of us here, but it isn't me. Not surprisingly, they didn't post my email comments, which referenced Anthony and his horrible attitude towards many of his customers.
