Here's your chance to tell them how you really feel
« on: February 20, 2013, 01:54:03 PM »
Saw this poll on LVA that some of you disgruntled members or former one may want to chime in on.

Feedback from a reader who emailed to say that, "Unfortunately, I will not be using ANY of the coupons in this year's book, since there are not any places that I go to," inspired us to ask: "Are you currently a member of Las Vegas Advisor and, if not, why not?!" Choose whichever answer most closely fits your habits.

Yes: I’m a loyal member of LVA and renew every year. Love all your stuff!
Yes: I’m a new member of LVA and was inspired to join because of ... (the coupons? the newsletter? the forums? email us what inspired you!)
No: I used to be a subscriber but I let my membership lapse because I no longer visit Las Vegas.
No: I visit Las Vegas regularly/am a local but I still don’t think I’d get enough value from a $37 LVA annual membership.
No: I’m only interested in free stuff and out of principal refuse to pay for anything, even if it will save me money.
No: I visit/live in Vegas but don’t ever go to a buffet, eat in a restaurant, drink in a bar, sleep in a hotel, gamble in a casino, or go to a show, so why on earth would I join LVA?
No: It’s personal. I realize LVA’s good value but I simply don’t like you and don’t want to give you a penny, although I still come here for all the free stuff.
No: I didn’t even know you HAD a membership program. What is it and why should I join?
No: I think your competitors like Groupon, Living Social, ValPak etc. offer better value and I can hand-pick deals I like.
Other: None of these answers closely matches. My Yes/No is because.... (email us via the next

I nearly voted for that, but I don't go there for "all the free stuff" either -- I only occasionally visit, if the QoD or something catches my eye.

I'm not a member nor am I vested one way or the other, but his answers, especially this one, reveal his arrogance and general attitude towards those who have issues with his site. He can't offer a negative choice without a zinger thrown in.
If you place a statistician's head in dry ice and his feet in boiling water, then on the average he is fairly comfortable but his comfort has a large variance.

I will most likely respond to that poll.  My only question is, which/who's identity/email addy am I going to use?

Don't fret, this is the internet, and I can be anyone I want to be.

Suggestions welcomed.

Only one of the answers come close.  I let my membership lapse at the end of 2012 after being a member for a long time.  The place was great.  I used to buy the MRB, but probably used one coupon in 10 years.  I just thought the good site needed the monetary support.

I could not log in even during my last two months as a paid member.  My question.  How do you respond to the poll or how would former members see this survey?

His arrogance is verified in this quote next to his picture from his home page:  "Recognize this man? Sure, you've seen him a hundred times on the Travel Channel, not to mention A&E, Discovery, E! Entertainment, BBC, and on and on. And you read his comments all the time in the national press. Anthony Curtis is the most recognized and quoted Las Vegas expert in the world."

LVA's cash value to me decreased as the matchplays dried up, but I would still be a member if not for its pathetically poor customer service and the arrogance of its founder.

Can't argue with that.

I too replied "Other" but sent an email explaining the lack of value, pathetic web site, and horrible customer service from their boss.

If I am not mistaken,   those of us who do not have paid memberships could see the poll question and reply yesterday,  but today it is no longer available.   Isn't that how the QOD works?
so those of us who want to bitch, are going to bitch.  and those who want to bitch about the bitching are going to bitch about the bitching.

The poll stays active for a couple of days. There is a link on the left hand side, just over the hotel deals section.

LOL,

And please Bard, do not take offense......you have just written something that both of us can completely agree on!

Who'd have thought that one day we could actually share an opinion?

I don't subscribe any longer.
I guess I just don't get the value in coupons unless I arrange my time and visits to cash in on enough of them. I have enough coupons in the American Casino Guide to satisfy me.  My last LVA book was riding in my back pocket and was picked out downtown instead of a wallet which I keep in my front pocket.  I did not get to use one coupon that year.  I don't feel like trying to find a place to put it so that it is safe.  I can keep one hand on my wallet in my front pocket, but I need the other hand free.

In addition to the American Casino Guide, I've been playing MyVegas for some freebies and the Eastside Cannery games on their site.  Most of the time I eat based on poker play for free or use points that accumulate from VP play.  So I just don't miss the coupons.
There are so many room deals and I'm really tired of 2 for 1 anyway.  I want to be in a place for a few days and avoid the check in, check out, luggage roll, bus ride trip.  I can get a 25 night trip down to under $20 on average and have four or five weekday nights without interruption.  The Four Queens or Orleans usually covers the weekend expenses.
2 for 1 food deals are useless for solo travelers.  So those were always wasted on me.
There are plenty of friendly and knowledable  folks on the discussion boards, but I find a few other boards answer any questions I have for free.  I've been enough times now that I pretty much have what I need for answers.  Much of the information that I might still use from the LVA board is very helpful, but it is also free for nonmembers: shuttles, conventions, buffet prices, that sort of thing.  In fact, if some news breaks on the LVA, it is very soon reposted on another board. So, I've dropped making the payment and find I did not miss being a member in the last few years.
