Oh, good point Terry!

Sam's valet does park the car in the sun!  They are one of the few who do that from what I can recall and my recall is not what it once was.

I think MSS valet parks in the sun as well.  I know Fremont's valet is a parking garage.

This might be a good topic on it's own.

Cheers,
Deanna

LOL, one trip in early August I had to go to the convention center, and left a 12 pack of diet coke in the trunk.  I'm from Chicago, I know about pop bursting from the cold, not from the heat.  I came out from the convention center and heard hissing......2 cans had exploded in the carton......kept it from making a bigger mess.  Others were in various states of swelling.  I took a can and tossed into a garbage can and it went off.  Did the same several more times.

Never gave a thought to it, as it wasn't really, really hot, just 94 or 95. Since then I always have a cooler in the car.  The cooler keeps it from popping even if the ice is gone.

Enjoy it, it's Vegas!

the inside of your car is much hotter.  Cant leave animals or babies in there, sad but people have forgotten they were there.  There was a police office who left his canine officer in the back just terrible.  This is in Phoenix.

Well J think back to your last trip. How much time did you actually spend outside in the daytime?

Second I would be sure to park in the garage if valet parks your car in the sun. You would be safe at SP their valet is underground. I do not know about Sams.

Third any time you are there is a good time.

Terry

You are right on T. And we self park at Sams so we would be out of the sun. I just wish SW would have another sale.....I should have booked their 20% off sale. Car rental is really high too. Time to start playing the game!  ;D

the heat in july (and august) is disgusting. but it can also hit triple digits in nyc so its not like staying home lets me avoid the heat.

and texas, gah. ill be making my annual trip to austin for chaos in tejas this june. hoursssss of outdoors, standing up because hardcore shows dont have seats, watching bands, running around between venues in the heat. so. gross.

I was on an America West flight to Vegas via Phoenix in the summer of 1990. We were delayed on the last leg of the flight because our 737 was not allowed to takeoff as the temperature was 122. I'd never heard of that problem before. I think we had to wait an hour or so. The Mirage had been open for about 6 months. What a fantastic place that was before they wrecked it 8-10 years ago.

There was a time we'd travel to Laughlin in the summer and a lot of the casinos did not have parking garages.  We used to cover the steering wheel with a towel while the car was parked or you could not touch the steering wheel.   Laughlin is approx.   7-8 degrees hotter than Vegas.  We were there a few time when the temp hit 122, God only knows how hot it was inside the parked car.

Add another to the chorus of people who would prefer the dry 100+ degree days of Vegas over the high 80s, high humidity we have in Virginia most of the summer. I've joked with my friends back home that it's amazing how comfortable 105 degrees is when there's no humidity. I've been there when it was 116 - that was miserable, no matter how dry it is.

Drink LOTS of water - much more than you  normally do. The problem with the dry heat is that you don't realize how much you're sweating, since it evaporates so quickly. If you go downtown, the difference in temps underneath the FSE canopy and outside it is big. You'll feel the difference as soon as you move from under the canopy to the sun.

Crowds are low, shows and restaurant reservations are much easier, etc. etc. I love Vegas in July.

I remember that day.  I lived in S. CA at the time and had an early evening flight from Burbank to Vegas,  It and most every flight out of Burbank was delayed because the incoming flights were stranded in Phoenix.  It was the day the Burbank airport ran out of cold beer.

Hey Group,

Here is information about "Heat Index" -- this is basically how it feels to a person based on combinations of either Temperature and the Dew Point or Temperature and the Relative Humidity.  I'm mentioning this because the higher the temperature is in combination with Low Humidity makes it feel like it's cooler.

For example, I plugged in to the Calculator (see the link below) 100 Degrees F (37.78 Degrees C) with a Relative Humidity of 8%, and the result I got leaves us with a Heat Index (feels like temperature) of 93 Degrees F (34 Degrees C), whereas when I plug in 88 Degrees F (31.11 Degrees C) with a Relative Humidity of 80%, I see a Heat Index of 106 Degrees F (41 Degrees C).

Heat Index from Wikipedia:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heat_Index

Heat Index Calculator:  http://www.hpc.ncep.noaa.gov/html/heatindex.shtml

And I have been in LV in July and it's quite hot so just make sure that you are properly hydrated and preferably, do not wear dark clothing.  So this "Dry Heat" stuff is correct!  It does feel cooler when the Relative Humidity is low.

Thanks for all the info everyone....we will be arriving 7/20 at 8:30am so we can get that rental car before the "heat" of the day sets in.
I know we were there in some hot weather a few years back, I just can't remember which month it was. All I know is we survived so we should be able to do it again!
